Since we arrived after dark last night, we had only a cursory idea of what Beijing looks like. This morning we awoke excited to do some exploring. Breakfast in the hotel (Super 8 Motel of Beijing!) was a mixture of interesting and not so interesting items for only $1.25. We tested pancakes, stuffed dumplings, fried bread, hard boiled eggs and many unidentifiables. |

We started off the day by searching the local area for a more "western" breakfast this morning. We weren't sure we wanted to have dumplings and biscuits again at our hotel. Unfortunately, all of the restaurants we saw along our side streets were Chinese and seemed to be deserted (it was almost 10am, after all). The only thing in sight was the KFC, and that didn't seem appropriate for brunch. |

It was time to conquer the Great Wall of China. We headed out to the Far East International Hostel in downtown Beijing. We had the street address of the hostel and closest major hotel location translated into Chinese. We left at 5:20am, giving us 40 minutes to make this 4 mile journey (plenty of time - right?). |

We had agreed to a late wake up since the Great Wall experience had tired us all out. Since I had not felt like eating much last night, I was very hungry which led to Tom and I venturing out to find our local Starbucks all on our own. Once I stepped out of the hotel, I was clueless on which way to go but luckily Tom knew the way. |

We had a 7:30am flight today. We planned for a 15 minute checkout at 4:45am, and to be on our way to the airport by 5am. While we were paying our bill, I ran down the alleyway and found a taxi - letting the driver know that we'd be five minutes (by using my hand and hoping he understood what I meant). |
