Wow - we awoke today still with sore muscles - how long will we pay for the 3 day hike :). Since we had gotten to the hotel the night before at 3 am - we "slept in" until 9:30 am. We were running kind of late, since we wanted to pickup the car at 10 am - so we skipped breakfast and caught a cab. We actually shared a cab with a fellow from Paris. He told us he was just hiking Mt. Aconcagua - a mountain at 22,851 feet - and he was telling us how when he got there, 2 body bags were being taken off the mountain, as they had just had -30 degree weather which didn't result in good hiking conditions. Scary (scarier that he continued to climb the mountain after 2 body bags were taken off of it). |

Still trying to catch up on our sleep from the past several nights, we got a late breakfast at the hotel, and then headed back to the room to nap for another hour or so. The breakfast buffet was included in our hotel stay and we sampled some Chilean style fried dough and round doughnut like things in a syrup-like sauce. They had all sorts of fresh juices available - one of the things we wil certainly miss when we get back to the US. |

We visited the free breakfast buffet again at the hotel, checked out, and hit the road at around 10:30 am. We drove to the beach town of Pichilemu - the beach was huge here - about 1500 feet wide and about a mile long - it took us 5 minutes just to reach the water! There were horse back rides along the water which looked fun - but we were in shorts and weren't really up for a ride. We headed down a block and grabbed some lunch at a beach side restaurant. It was probably our first Chilean meal - We both had some fresh local fish - they were great! |

We finally got to the airport today to pick up the new filter for Mario's camera. It was quite a process, and from now on, we're going to try harder not to drop anything in the ocean :) It was about an hour and a half drive from Vina del Mar to the airport - we decided to go to the same inner airport UPS office to see if the customs documents had arrived there... They said the documents weren't there, but we should try over at the courier office, next to the terminal. |

We took advantage of our last day at the beach - and hung out on Playa Aculpulco. For some reason, we had become obsessed with finding Empanadas con Queso, as they sounded pretty good, but we had yet to try one. Once again, the late start in Chile had us fooled - we went to a few shops along the boardwalk - but none were selling Empanadas yet (it was 12:30 pm!!!) - they were just opening. They said come back later. When we did around 2:30 pm - we were a little disappointed - it was just deep fried bread with cheese inside (nothing really special). |
