Well, last night didn't turn out exactly as we had planned... Once again, we learned that in the world of airports, telling the whole truth doesn't always pay off. We had our suspicions that we shouldn't go all the way through customs when we landed in the International terminal in Lima, since we had planned on going to the 24 hr VIP lounge to get a little sleep. |

It rained all night and into the morning. We delayed getting up for an hour or so in hopes that it would clear up - but finally we just gave in and put on our rain gear. Our hotel provided a small continental breakfast consisting of bread, jam, tea, coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. It was just enough to get us on our way as we climbed up through the narrow cobblestone streets away from the center of town. |

Never a day without a story to tell :) - we awoke this morning set to head out on a 9am tour of the Inca Sacred Valley in Peru. While I was getting ready to find a company to book with, I took out the money that the Andean Travel gave us back for the Inca Trail fiasco. They had given a $100, $50, $20, $10. When we got the money, I thought, "well - don't like 100's, but we have to pay for the hotel, so who cares"... When I took it out this morning, I remembered that Peru had a counterfeit US dollar problem - so I decided to look at it - hmmm.. a $100 made in 2004 with no security strip in it!!! Not good. |

Jaimie woke up with a sinus headache today - so we really took it easy. Around noon - we headed out for lunch back to Jack's Cafe - one of our 2 favorite restaurants. If you come to Cusco, you must go to Jack's Cafe - just 2 blocks from Plaza de Armas (the main square). I had the most delicious french toast ($3) , and jaimie had beans in tortilla wraps ($2.50)- we had 1.50 strawberry juices too! See pic - the food tastes better then it looks (and it looks pretty darn good!) |

4 am - We had a really early morning so our group could get a head start and hike the Inca Trail in only 3 days instead of 4. Luckily, I am feeling much better today. As of last night around dinner time, I was having serious doubts about being able to do the hike. It turns out I was affected by the altitude here in Cusco (in part due to some strenuous climbs on our Sacred Valley tour) and had a non-stop headache all day and night. By dinner, I had a hard time trying to force myself to eat. The miracle cure - coca leaf tea, which I had at dinner. Within the hour, my headache was completely gone (something many rounds of Advil could not acheive!) |
